Helping individuals, couples, and families to grow, change and heal.

My Payment Philosophy:

I am a collaborative therapist in many ways. One of these is my unique financial
approach. You have choices of how to pay for your therapy services. I accept cash, cards, HSA cards and check. When needed, services may be provided on a sliding fee scale according to an agreed upon payment plan. Psychotherapy is a medical expense, and you may use your HSA Visa/MC card as immediate payment.

Fee for service option:

By not directly billing insurance, I am able to use therapist discretion when diagnosing clients, and focus on relational and systemic problems as needed. As insurance companies can determine what are medically necessary reimbursable mental disorders, they may not cover relational/family/marital work. This choice allows client and provider to decide what to focus on in therapy and how often to attend, not the insurance company. Using the fee-for-service approach allows me to focus on quality, confidentiality, and more personal affordable care while freeing us from hours of paper and telephone work to try to obtain, maintain and trouble-shoot benefit claims. I believe that this method makes for more confidential therapy services, a simpler financial process, and more focused therapy. As health care policy evolves, and policy deductibles escalate, some clients find that paying for therapy themselves is a simpler process to manage while giving them ultimate control over how their information is managed or shared.

Using Health Insurance:

It is the individual's responsibility to check with their insurance provider to verify any out-of-network coverage prior to the start of therapy if attempting reimbursement. It is important that people understand that using your insurance for counseling requires a mental health diagnosis. Your diagnosis, treatment plan and case notes may be released to the insurance company if they request this information in order to determine payment. The diagnosis becomes part of your personal health record, even if you are seeking marriage therapy or family therapy.
